My Proudest Achievement

This is kind of an embarrassing story …

Last year, I wrote a book.

It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. For anyone who has attempted to write a book (or even a Blog post), you can likely relate.  The emotional resistance and fear of failure is so great, it can paralyze you into taking no action.

I wrote about this experience here: Fear and How to Beat It

Anyway, so everyday I forced myself to sit down at 6am, and to not get up until I had 1000 words or more written down. The writing each day wasn’t always great, in fact most of it wasn’t good and had to be removed during editing.

My biggest challenge was moving forward and overcoming that little voice in my head that told me I didn’t know how to write. I knew that if I could just finish it, I could do it again. And thus, mark an important personal milestone.

My goal was to not only get it done, but to complete a polished final product that I was proud of. I wanted it to be simple, beautiful and immensely helpful (and actionable).

After three months of hard work (mostly overcoming the voice in my head), two all-nighters, learning how to design a book from scratch, and by the grace of Jesus-Buddha-Allah-Krishna and all other things Holy, I finished.

I tell you… that was THE hardest thing I’ve ever done! Harder than having a baby. Harder than parallel parking. Harder than completing college.

And then I did the most curious thing… I didn’t launch it.

After quietly sending it to all the good people who had pre-ordered it (for which I am deeply grateful. Thank you.), I moved on to the next project. In fact, if I didn’t have the pre-orders, I never would have finished it.

I did the one thing that Seth Godin stressed not to do: starting stuff and not shipping it. “Don’t just start stuff. You have to ship!”

In hindsight, completing it wasn’t the hardest part. Shipping it, launching it, and making it public was.

Truth was, I was scared. Even after receiving positive feedback and testimonials from the people who had pre-ordered, I was afraid that you wouldn’t like it. I was afraid of criticism and failure.

I felt as if the little kid in me was completely shaken up. So I closed her off completely.

Unconsciously convinced by the little voice in my head that told me it wasn’t good enough and that I wasn’t good enough… I came up with enough excuses to not take the next step.

But you know what? It bothered me. Every few weeks, I would be reminded of this incomplete project. Someone would ask or I would think about it and then feel completely embarrassed.

Then some weeks ago, Cat mentioned it in an email exchange:

“Discover You Now is wonderful. I finally finished it a few months ago. It’s packed full of hands on learning. You should launch it, and I think it poses a lot of questions that would be extremely helpful to people.”

I then proceeded to give her lame excuses for why I hadn’t launched it. And immediately after typing that, it felt like it was a lie.

When examining it consciously and honestly, the real reason was Fear. And all my excuses were just pretty bows to cover up this truth.

Anyway, my point of telling you all of this is two fold:

1. Letting you know what this project is all about. And why it’s taking me forever to launch it. :)

2. If you have a project that you want to do but fear keeps getting in the way, or have a project you’ve started but never launched…. Just do it!  It will be more painful not to do it, because thinking about it will eat at you and consume an enormous amount of energy.

What is “Discover You Now” All About?

It’s more accurately described as a personal workshop than a book. It documents and describes everything I’ve learned on the topic of finding your life purpose—essentially living a life with meaning, purpose and passion.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve spent over $10,000 in workshops and self-education on this topic and have distilled these learnings through practice and experience down to a few highly actionable steps.

In Discover You Now, I walk you through the steps that I personally use to gain in-depth understanding of myself, my values, my purpose, my mission, my goals, and how I ultimately use this heightened awareness and insight to make exceptional decisions; decisions that will lead to more joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment.

In addition to the above, there are two more major sections in the guide:

  • Work – Discover how to make a living with your passion.
  • Action – Create a plan and learn how to following through and get it all done.

Looking through DYN now, I am immensely proud of what I’ve created. And I hope that it will bring you many ‘ah-hah’ moments and valuable personal insights.

Don’t just read the words; make sure to do the worksheets. That’s where the money is and you will be glad you did (as I have done, countless times in the last decade).

I’m not a sales person … so let me get to the point:

The price will be $58. You will also get over $100 worth of bonuses for Free from some amazing authors (Leo Babauta of Zen Habits, Danielle Laporte, Jennifer Louden, etc).

And if you’ve tried DYN and are not happy with it for any reason, you can request for a full refund. I want to make sure you are happy, and I am honored to be a part of your journey towards self-understanding and living an extraordinary & magical life.
